WhatsApp Now Allows Sending Photos in Higher Resolution

Sending photos via WhatsApp has often been marred by a significant downside the processing that occurs tends to diminish their size, resolution, and overall quality, making them appear notably less sharp. However, this inconvenience is now on the brink of becoming history, at least when it comes to low-resolution issues. After a considerable delay, WhatsApp is introducing "HD photos" to its platform. In the realm of WhatsApp, "HD" translates to the complete image resolution. Alongside this, users will also retain the option of the default "Standard" quality setting, which sacrifices some resolution for quicker transfers and reduced storage demands—this option cuts the resolution in half. While pixel count holds importance, image compression is another aspect that plays a role here. Nonetheless, WhatsApp has chosen not to disclose the extent of compression even for these newly christened "HD" photos. Nevertheless, this change ensures that images will sport higher resolutions, leading to an improved visual experience. A distinctive HD icon will be introduced, enabling users to select from the two aforementioned quality presets. It's worth noting that all images, regardless of quality, will remain end-to-end encrypted, preserving privacy. The rollout of this new feature has commenced on a global scale, although it's expected to take a few weeks before reaching all users universally. Additionally, the capability to send "HD" videos is anticipated to follow in the near future.
